Lots of Windows Blue Screens
It is a frustrating problem when your computer does not start as it should.
Over the last month or so, more people than usual have been contacting me with reports of their computer not starting correctly, but instead showing some kind of “blue screen”, usually with recovery options that are confusing or don’t seem to work.
In many cases, I am able to fix the problem and get their computer working again. A successful fix is more likely if Restore Points have been enabled. If Windows is badly corrupted, it may need to be re-installed. Usually I can recover data, even if you can’t login… but not always, so keep doing those backups!
The cause can be all sorts of things, but often because a Windows Update doesn’t complete all the way and gets stuck in state that is not functioning.
Sometimes it is because there is a faulty part, such as a storage drive. I’ve replaced more than a few of those. In some cases the drive is just so slow, even if healthy, that I recommend replacing with a faster SSD so that updates will have a chance to complete in a timely manner.
If you know anyone who has a computer with a blue screen issue they can’t fix on their own, I’d appreciate it you gave them my contact information. Referrals are really helpful, both to me and the person you recommend me to (as I am usually able to help).
Linux is an option
If Microsoft is ruining your fun with computers, there are alternatives to Microsoft Windows. I’ve been using and enjoying Linux for quite a while now, with hundreds of customers who have bought a computer from me with Linux or had me install it on their existing computer.
I have inexpensive desktop computers that I sell with Linux pre-installed that make a good way to try it out.
