Announcing the February winner
Read on. Winner is revealed below.
Tiny, Mini, Micro - the little PCs
The full size desktop PC form factor is here to stay and not going anywhere. It gives lots of options for upgrade-ability and expansion options.
However, a tiny contender has been making itself known: The Mini PC.
I have a section for them on my website. Lenovo call theirs “Tiny”, HP uses the term “Mini” and Dell “Micro”. Intel calls theirs “NUC” - which stands for “Next Unit of Computing”.
Generically, the term “mini PC” is most often used.
The biggest different between these mini PCs and regular desktop computer is that they lack the PCIe expansion slots, which are useful for adding graphics cards. So mini PCs don’t have a dedicated graphics card and they are not able to have their graphics upgraded.
They really shine as a general purpose PC. The small size makes them easy to fit on a desk or mount under a desk. They are usually quiet and do not use much energy. They work well for most communication, web browsing, video watching and office document tasks.
This month for our giveaway, the desktop option is an Intel NUC with Intel eighth generation i5 processor. Lots of ability packed into a 4 inch by 4 inch square.
