Why some laptop designs are prone to fail

I recently did a video explaining a common way that laptops break. The anchors that hold the hinges on a laptop are a weak point.

A summary of what I talk about in the video:

Light and thin consumer class laptops are not designed with durability in mind. So the area around the hinge often breaks, due to thin or weak plastic. Avoid this by getting a laptop with a more durable design. Usually this is a business class laptop, such as an HP EliteBook, Lenovo ThinkPad or Dell Latitude.

A broken laptop hinge can often be fixed… but wouldn’t it be better to have a laptop that was less likely to suffer from this problem?
